RESEARCHER - CYLICALS TOPICS

THE POSITION

The Cyclicals Researcher should be adept at covering a broad array of topics within the industry. This may include transportation services, industrial supply chains, construction equipment, agribusiness and other market segments. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will be comfortable pivoting from topic to topic – regardless of prior experience – and gaining enough understanding to hold intelligent conversations. The individual in this role will work closely with multiple senior researchers in the group to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ability to efficiently develop new relationships with industry professionals is a must, as the primary responsibility of this position is conducting in depth phone interviews with a variety of contacts in industrial and transportation markets.  Excellent communication skills, including concise and clear writing, as well as strong verbal presentation skills are other important aspects of this role. Organizational and analytical skills, an ability to “connect the dots” and generate new research ideas are other key attributes of the role.

  • This is a telecommuting, hourly position, so the ideal candidate will be a self-starter and quick learner comfortable working remotely.
  • Strong background researching, analyzing and writing related to the Cyclical markets, potentially including heavy equipment, transportation services, agribusiness and other related market segments.

CONSUMER RETAIL LATIN AMERICA REPORTER – PART TIME

THE POSITION

Consumer Retail Latin America Reporter provides relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will be expected to develop new industry sources and maintain relationships to generate timely, in-depth interviews spanning retail, restaurants and consumer products topics in Latin American countries. Effective source development, interviewing skills and ability to succinctly write up key findings are key aspects of the role. Effective communication skills and schedule flexibility are other key aspects of the role. Projects are based on client demand with projects typically requiring 2-3 weeks. The Reporter reports to Consumer Retail Custom Editor.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Thorough understanding of the Mexican, Central and South American markets with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: apparel and footwear, retail wholesale, consumer products and/or restaurants industry.
  • Network of industry contacts in Mexico, Spain, Central and/or South America; ability to network and successfully develop new sources is key
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in retail, restaurants and/or consumer products market research firm experience or investigative journalism experience
  • Ability to cold call, obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes.
  • Excellent writing and interviewing skills with the ability to analyze and identify key findings; spot trends
  • The ability to speak Spanish is required, along with strong verbal and written English skills; ability to speak Portuguese a plus

REPORTER - SOFTWARE TOPICS - PART-TIME

THE POSITION

The Software Reporter should be adept at covering a broad array of topics within the software industry. The individual in this role will work closely with the Director of Software Research to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with industry professionals who can speak to strategic trends in software and technology. Excellent communication skills, including concise and clear writing, as well as strong verbal presentation skills are important aspects of this role. Organizational and analytical skills, ability to connect the dots and idea generation are other key attributes of the role. The individual in this role reports to the Director of Software Research. 

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES  

      • Multi-lingual with Portuguese and Spanish and English

      • Residing in Mexico, LA or SA required

      • Strong background working in or writing about the software industry, or in journalism

      • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in software sales, telemarketing or software research; investigative journalism experience a plus

      • Understanding of the key trends shaping software and technology, and an ability to identify inflections in those trends

      • Ability to develop and maintain new source relationships

      • Well developed, positive communication skills; ability to clearly articulate research findings to institutional investors

INTERN - SPRING 2019

THE POSITION
The spring 2019 undergraduate interns will work on a variety of business related and marketing projects with the senior management.  This role allows for great autonomy, flexibility, and hands on learning.  The intern will have exposure to the financial services industry and the entrepreneurship of a high growth business within a highly competitive market.  Paid internship and interns must be able to prove they are able to be legally employed. The internship is in Purchase, NY. $12/hour.

QUALIFICATIONS  

      • Strong MS Office skills with emphasis on PowerPoint and Excel

      • Strong data analysis skills

      • Strong data modeling skills

      • Programming experience required. Knowledge of Python a bonus.

      • Strong Internet research ability

      • Strong writing and verbal skills

      • History of success and hard work exemplified in previous work experience, academics, athletics, or other activities

      • Applicant must be enrolled, full time in college and must have finished freshman year.

      • Applicants must be able work for 10-12 consecutive weeks for 25-40 hours per week

FULL-TIME CONSUMER RETAIL CHINA RESEARCHER

THE POSITION

The Consumer Retail Researcher will work closely with Editor, China Consumer, to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community by interviewing industry sources. This person will develop and maintain relationships with industry sources to generate timely in-depth interviews spanning retail, restaurants and consumer products topics in China. Effective source development and interviewing skills are key aspects of the role. The individual in this role will also support the Editor, China Consumer, to prepare and coordinate projects in the field, work closely with other members of the Consumer Retail China team and OTR's global Consumer Retail team in other regions, as appropriate. Effective communication skills is another key aspect of the role. The Consumer Retail Researcher, China reports to Editor, China Consumer.

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

      • Thorough understanding of the China market with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: ecommerce, apparel and footwear, retail wholesale, consumer products and/or restaurants industry.
      • Extensive industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations; ability to network and successfully develop new sources is key
      • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in ecommerce, retail, restaurants and/or consumer products; consulting or market research firm experience, investigative journalism experience a plus
      • Ability to obtain in-depth interviews and accurately capture detailed notes.
      • Ability to analyze and identify essential findings; spot trends, strategize and think broadly forward;
      • Strong organizational skills; an ideal candidate is a quick learner and able to multitask
      • Strong and positive communication skills
      • The ability to speak/read and write native Chinese is required; strong verbal and written English skills preferred.
      • Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible with schedule a must due to working with reporters and editors in different world time zones.
